USING AUTHENTIC MATERIALS FOR LANGUAGE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT: THE ROLE OF PODCASTS, VIDEOS, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND ARTICLES IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING
Abstract
The integration of authentic materials into foreign language teaching has become an essential component of communicative language education. Authentic materials, including podcasts, videos, social media content, and newspaper or magazine articles, expose learners to real-world language use and cultural contexts that cannot be fully replicated by traditional textbooks. These resources enhance learners' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while increasing motivation and promoting intercultural competence. This article examines the theoretical foundations of authentic materials, explores their role in developing the four language skills, discusses the benefits and challenges of their classroom implementation, and provides practical recommendations for language teachers. The article argues that authentic materials contribute significantly to communicative competence by bridging the gap between classroom instruction and real-life language use.References
