Abstract

Bibliography is one of the fundamental disciplines of library and information science, serving as an essential tool for organizing, preserving, and disseminating recorded knowledge. In the digital era, the rapid growth of printed and electronic information resources has significantly increased the importance of bibliographic activities in ensuring effective information retrieval and access to reliable sources. This article examines the historical development of bibliography, its theoretical foundations, the evolution of bibliographic work in Uzbekistan, and the impact of modern information technologies on bibliographic services. Particular attention is paid to the role of bibliographic records, annotations, abstracts, and electronic bibliographies in supporting scientific research, education, and information literacy. The article also reviews international recommendations issued by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) regarding national bibliography and bibliographic control. The study concludes that bibliography remains an indispensable component of modern information infrastructure and continues to evolve alongside technological innovation and the increasing demand for high-quality information services.
