THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COLLABORATIVE LEARNING IN DEVELOPING COMMUNICATION SKILLS IN ESL
Abstract
This study explores how collaborative learning contributes to improving communication skills among learners of English as a Second Language (ESL). As an instructional method that involves students working together in small groups toward common objectives, collaborative learning has proven effective in strengthening both language and social abilities. The paper reviews theoretical perspectives and previous research on the topic, highlighting its impact on promoting active engagement, enhancing language proficiency, and building social interaction in ESL classrooms. The results indicate that collaborative learning greatly improves students’ speaking and listening skills, boosts their self-confidence, and supports learning through peer collaboration. The study concludes with practical suggestions for incorporating collaborative learning techniques into ESL teaching practices.
