Abstract

Long-term high-dose glucocorticosteroid and cytostatic therapy of steroid-dependent and steroid-resistant ulcerative colitis is associated with serious adverse effects, including Cushing's syndrome, osteoporosis, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia. Reducing the drug load while maintaining efficacy is an important clinical task.
